Website content plans:

• Mike Kuhn is helping me assemble content for a series of pictorial posts/articles to feature last year’s sectional Illumiation Awards winners.  Will be very easy to copy/paste into this website’s format, possibly with a small gallery for each project if we have enough photos.
• Only sticking point is we need to discuss/establish a standard practice of asking permission when publishing other’s photos on this website.  This will avoid a slew of potential concerns regarding copyright permissions – especially since we plan to promote and feature local projects by local professional photographers who make a living this way.  I’ve reached out to Mike/Jana and IES nationals on this issue so far, and have a plan of action.
• I’ve finished setting up a relatively easy gallery system for the posts.  Will demonstrate in the coming meeting.  With this tool in place we should be able to make a series of simple and worthwhile posts simply using photos collected from past and future events.

Point of discussion for next meeting:

• Explain the author/editor hierarchy for the website – look for volunteers interested in helping edit/format others’ contributions
• Discuss the importance of applying feature images to our posts.  We can go a few directions with this, but if feature images are ultimately too difficult or something we aren’t motivated to do on a fairly regular basis, Seiji has offered re-working the format of our homepage to be “less visual.”

I encourage everyone to play around.  Try making/publishing a post if you haven’t already!

Such is the case for Julie Pierce who not only has a myriad of design awards in her arsenal, but in recent years as a leader at Henderson Engineers and director of Impact Illumination has through the interview process with architects across the country, been instrumental in extolling the virtues of lighting design as a key ingredient in the built environement design. No other local design personality in the past 20 years has been able to expose the architectural community to the benefits of lighting design as she has. As such, she is the most deserving of this award among all the possible candidates.”

We had a wonderful event at The Drop restaurant in Kansas City, MO. Thank you to all who came out to celebrate Julie and all her contributions to IES and the design community.

Hello KC IES!

We would like to officially invite you to the KC Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, May 7th, 2012.  It will be held at the Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe.  Start dusting your golf clubs off and practicing your swing!  Like last year we’ll have great prizes, raffles, and food.
